Instead of clinical disposable pads, these pads are colorful, soft, and reusable. Thick and absorbent, they consist of eight layers of cotton flannel and are edged with hand-sewn bias tape. Some of the inner layers are re-purposed from flannel pjs! The outer layers are brand new. They have a greater circumference than store-bought pads to offer more protection. This one has so many layers. Through the whole process I was really happy with the drawing, but had a hard time resolving the colors and especially the values. I think it turned out really well in the end. They look so in love….

I’m not quite sure if this painting is done yet. I always take a couple days to think about my paintings of people before I decide if they’re done… It captures what I wanted, which is that mood of the baby napping on mom in total comfort… But I might like to add some subtlety to the baby. So, maybe.

I got this little kitty at a garage sale about 10 years ago. She used to be holding a fishing pole, but she looks more like she’s praying than fishing to me. With this painting, … I was trying to get the grey to stand out from the warm background, but to sit with it as well.

I had a lot of fun setting this one up. Another satsuma, calling to her friend. I was experimenting with a low key pallet with a master color (orange). I think the shadows on the peel were the most successful part…
