“Herding Apples” / 6×6 in / oil on linen /SOLD

100% of the final bid will be donated to the charity Every Mother Counts. This is a great cause. Click here to see all of the art being auctioned.

The need: Every 90 seconds, a women dies from childbirth. Fully 90% of those deaths are preventable. The Aid organization Every Mother Counts is training midwives in Afghanistan, opening health clinics in the Democratic Republic of Congo and shipping unused medical supplies to South Sudan. These are tangible, practical projects designed to combat maternal mortality and injuries worldwide.

I tried something different today – a low key painting, and very warm analogous colors – yellow, orange, red and red-violet. Because this painting was for the Every Mother Counts auction (charity), I wanted to do a still life setup that looked a little like a mom and kids. Hope you like it!

By the way, aren’t these apples beautiful? We picked them of the trees at Walters Ranch; they’re plum size and shape and color!

Playing In The Dirt

Playing In The Dirt / 6 x 8 in /oil on linen / $150

I wanted to capture the beets as they come out of the garden – dirt and all. What do you think?

Thank you Heidi for giving me these beautiful beets!

I’ve been limiting my pallet lately in a new arrangement – ultramarine blue, quin red, and lemon yellow (for the most part). I’m usually drawn to the warm colors on my pallet, so I’m surprised that I just love this color combination.
