Rattlesnake Ridge / 12×16 in / oil on canvas / $500

My son and I went for a walk a couple weeks ago on a trail along the Little Spokane river. It’s a beautiful trail where sometimes you can see the river and sometimes it’s just a densely  pine tree shaded path.

In this painting you can see a little glimpse of the river and a house in the distance. I really like the way the tall trees on the left came out – I think those are my best trees so far, especially that red one. Sky-holes (where you can see sky or background through the greenery on a tree) are really hard for me, and I am always so pleased when it comes out just right.

Sun On Spring Trees / 6×8 in / oil on wood / $180

This is another painting of the same scene from yesterday. Yesterday I painted a bit of the river that was unobscured by the trees, and today I painted a bit that is obscured by trees. I find through the trees scenes difficult to paint, but I really enjoy them. I like this painting – the horizontal planes in the background and the vertical silhouette in the foreground, and that pallet. I am starting to really enjoy this extremely limited pallet.(#3330)
