Hi everyone, I have been working on several portraits, and the one that is finished may show in the 20 under 40 show at Tinman gallery (Spokane) in Feb, so I’m keeping it un-posted…

Anyways, for a mental break from all that, I painted this cow standing in the snow. I loved the atmospheric effect of the scene, and the silhouette of this solitary cow. The colors of snow is my favorite part of this snowy winter…

You’ve probably noticed that I really enjoy painting birds. Painting the Scoters was harder than painting crows or geese, for some reason. These birds are just having a good time floating around. I guess they’re surfers.

I’ve been seeing a lot of geese and wild turkeys lately around here. The wild turkeys are nothing like the domestic ones – they look like peacocks to me (without the color).

I love crows. They’re so smart and expressive, and they have such a good sense of humor. This guy just flew down out of a tree, and hopped around checking out the park before flying off again.

I’m thrilled with this one. I wanted to convey the lushness of the pasture and the enormity and density of the trees behind. There are several sheep, both adults and babies, basking in the sun in the pasture. This was a really beautiful spot on the island.

SOLD. This is the largest painting I’ve finished recently. Right now I’m working on a couple more paintings in this series. It’s fun working so large for a change. I can really see the value of doing more large paintings, and also of doing more small paintings. I think one educated the other…

This winter has been really mild, and geese have been flocking south for months. The flocks have been huge and talkative, too.

Here is one of the large paintings that I recently finished (20 in x 24 in). This one looks more like a ‘wildlife painting’ than the other paintings I’ve done, but really it is still a contemporary impressionist painting. I wanted to imply a big flock in motion without showing them all. Comments appreciated.(#3314)

I’m working on my colors this week – specifically my color harmony. Here’s a monochromatic painting of a mother and baby walrus. Here’s the closest thing to a monochromatic painting I’ve done before this, besides my abstract paintings.

By the way, I used Carol Marine’s suggestion of soaking my caked up paint brushes (which I had all but given up on) in Murphey’s Oil Soap overnight, and it worked well! Thanks Carol!
