Jessie Rasche, Painting (in) the Inland Northwest

ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint intimate little paintings as a way of appreciating the world; to discover everything I can about a small element, to see how the light touches the objects, how it dances on flower petals, a toy train, or pine trees. My bigger paintings explore characters, textures and patterns as well.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

To my great joy, most of my time is spent with my sweet two year old son.

I paint as much as possible, and for the spring and summer of 2009, did a painting daily. Through this I pushed myself to become better each week than the week before. Now I paint daily, but work on a larger scale, not attempting to finish the paintings as quickly.

I paint anything that catches my interest. Most days that is fruit, flowers, people and toys, but some days I go out for plein air landscape painting, or work on a larger studio landscape. I try to capture the light effects, the color harmony, and the feeling and weight or substance of the things I paint, rather than the details.

My style has been described as impressionistic, colorful, serene, and occasionally whimsical. I am currently working in oil, enjoying the buttery textures of the paint.
