“Ducks, painting in progress” – 24×36 – oil on canvas
I started this painting some time ago and then put aside. This is a painting of the ducks at Rattlesnake Ridge swimming in the reedy river, with some bare trees behind them.
I can’t tell if it’s a “false start” or not, mainly because I like the wild dark reflection in the water. It seems like it has potential, but also some basic issues. Any ideas?
My painting arrived today and it is even better than I had hoped for! I love the way you mounted it in an offset shadow box frame~~ It sets off the painting perfectly!!

Her style is representational and impressionistic and her subjects range from landscapes to figurative to still-life. She likes to illustrate an image or emotion with patterns and gestures, many brush strokes that add up to a finished piece. When you step close to one of her paintings, you can see deliberate strokes of color, and when you step back, the colors blend and become whole, encompassing a viewer with a moment of beauty.
Do you think the ducks get lost because of the very dark reflections in the water? They are a great shape element, to be sure. Perhaps if you punched up the presence of the ducks, to balance out the heavy left side? Otherwise I think it is lovely.
