Oil on canvas board, 6×6, March 12. I had a couple false starts with this one trying to get the colors. My photo didn’t really get the hues right – it came out pretty decent. I’ll try painting this a few more times.

I really liked the way these flowers have started spraying over the side of the vase. The colors are much nicer in the actual painting – I need to spend some time setting up a photo area, but it’s hard to take the time away from painting… – see other still life oil paintings

I had too many interruptions and was only able to paint for about 20 minutes (which was painfully frustrating!). However, I did get things blocked in quite will in that short amount of time, so although I may scrub the canvas I got something out of the time.

I’ve been working really hard on “getting” translucency, and this one felt good. These came out really well. The shadow is good and I captured the translucency well.
