About the Artist, Jessie Rasche
I was born in 1971 in Bellingham, Washington, and grew up in the community of Pike Place Market artists in Seattle where my mother created and sold artwork. I studied Fine Art the Pacific NW College of art in Portland, Oregon, and later graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelors in Psychology. I now live with my husband, son, and two cats in Eastern Washington.
For the spring and summer of 2009, I created a new painting daily. Through this, I pushed myself to become better each week than the week before. Now I tend to work at a slower pace and sometimes on a larger scale, working most paintings over a series of painting sessions. This slower pace is due, in part, to becoming the proud parent of a very active, interesting, and always-curious 4-year old son.
I love showing and selling my work online because it fits in with my busy schedule as an artist who is also a full-time mom. It also gives me a chance to “meet” each person who purchases one of my paintings, and I’m so grateful for all the positive feedback I’ve received.
I paint anything that catches my interest. Most days that is fruit, flowers, people or toys, but some days I go outside for plein air landscape painting, or work on a larger studio landscape. Rather than capturing details, I try instead to capture the light effects, the color harmony, and the feeling and weight or substance of the things I paint.
One particularly satisfying ongoing project is my Moms Loving series. Many of my readers have sent in photos of themselves with their babies and children, and they’ve graciously allowed my to use their photos as models for my paintings. Every painting shows a different aspect of the warm connection between a parent and a child. You can see the paintings in this series by choosing “Mom, Dads and Kids” link at the top of this page.
Thank you to the people who have commented or emailed their comments and encouragements. I always enjoy hearing from you.
